Knights of Columbus Martyrs

In May we observe several important events: Mother’s Day on May 9, Ascension Day on May 13 and of course the Arizona State Convention May 21-22.

But did you know that on May 20 we honor the Knights of Columbus Mexican Martyrs?  From the May KOCOA:

“Missionaries were expelled from the country, Catholic seminaries and schools were closed, and the Church was forbidden to own property. Priests and laymen were told to renounce Jesus and their faith in public; if they refused, they faced not just punishment, but torture and death.

During this time of oppression and cruelty, the Knights of Columbus did not retreat in Mexico, but grew dramatically from 400 members in 1918 to 43 councils and 6,000 members just five years later. In the United States at the time, the Knights handed out five million pamphlets that described the brutality of the Mexican government toward Catholics. As a result the Mexican government greatly feared and eventually outlawed the Order.

Thousands of men, many of whom were Knights, would not bow to these threats or renounce their faith, and they often paid with their lives. They took a stand when that was the most difficult thing to do, and their courage and devotion have echoed down through the decades. ”  — KOCOA May 2021

August/September Pilgrimage to Spain, Portugal and France

Consider journeying with Father Seraphim Molina and I next year through Spain, Portugal and France, we will be visiting three of the major apparition sites (Garabandal, Fatima and Lourdes!), also Saint Teresa of Avila’s convent, where Saint Ignatius of Loyola was born, Saint James (he who is the Patron Saint of Pilgrimages!),Lisbon where Saint Anthony of Padua comes from, the Eucharistic Miracle of Santarem, and more! This pilgrimage encompasses much and is during a Jubilee Year, which greatly enriches the pilgrimage.  All should surely pilgrimage at some point in their life.  To pilgrimage is not simply to visit holy places or sites, it is the journey of the soul, it is a walk with Our Lord and Mother Mary, it touches the soul in a most profound way in a blessing of an Eternal nature.  I will serve as group leader for this pilgrimage, and Father Seraphim will serve as the Spiritual Director.

Download  the brochure for the pilgrimage here 2022 Spain-Portugal-France Pilgrimage Christie Blair-Father Seraphim Molina.  I am more than happy to mail hard copies, together with a blessed Holy Face of Jesus medal from Italy touched to the relic of Saint Joseph, I would just need the mailing address.

Here is the link to the website:

Though the brochure says from Tucson, you are able to travel from any destination, the website has a drop down menu for destinations and if you do not see your desired airport there, please let me know and we can ensure it is added.

I would greatly appreciate if you would prayerfully discern this pilgrimage for you, and either way, if you would please consider forwarding this email/brochure/website and share with family, friends and/or your parish communities.  Irrespective of this, please keep this pilgrimage, and all pilgrims in your special prayers, and I will carry with me on pilgrimage, you and all of your special intentions.

In the Love of Christ,

Capilla De Virgin De Guadalupe Restoration – Need Helpers

Hello Brother Knights,

I am Christopher D. Gates RN, BSN, AA, AS, AGS.  I have been given a blessing to renovate a chapel devoted to and carrying the name Of our Blessed Mother.  This being said we are stretching our efforts to help the church gain more parishioners by making her capilla more attractive.   We need anyone who can paint, throw fleck on epoxy, clean, do electrical work, help construct a stucco entrance, do floor sanding.  The altar area will be a pearlescent white finish with silver fleck, the ceiling needs paint and some woodworking.  If you feel a call to bless Our Lady with your efforts we would love to do it with you.

Arizona Rosary Celebration

The Arizona Rosary Celebration 2021, honoring Mary under her title “Our Lady of Sorrows” promises to be a memorable event as we implore Our Mother’s help in interceding for us to overcome and recover from this terrible pandemic. She is the most powerful intercessor we can turn to in this time of need. We are making our plans for both the Tucson and the Phoenix events to be live, enabling us to gather in person to honor and pray to Mary. As State and local agencies progress toward widespread vaccinations, we are very hopeful that this will allow us to safely relax the restrictions now in place and permit us to once again gather in public as God’s people. We will be following the progress closely and keeping everyone informed. The backup plan is still to carry the Celebration online as we did last year. The important thing to remember is that there will be an Arizona Rosary Celebration in 2021, and we are only deciding on how it will be presented. So put the dates on your calendar, spread the word to everyone you know and help us make this year’s event the most memorable Arizona Rosary Celebration ever.
